Dear Parents of Middle/High School students,
As we begin a new year, allow me to welcome
you and your child to my class. My name
is Sherry Flores, and I was born and raised in a Christian family in
Fredericksburg, Virginia. After
graduating from Faith Baptist School, I attended the University of Mary
Washington and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in History and American Studies as
well as my teaching certification. My first year as a teacher, I was fortunate
enough to minister at an international Christian school in Singapore teaching
social studies and Bible to middle school students from all over the
world. The following year, I taught all
of the core subjects for the middle school at Colonial Academy in
Stafford. Last year was my first year at
Calvary, and just like last year, this year, I will be teaching most of the
core subjects for seventh and eighth grades as well as the high school social
sciences.
Since this is middle and high
school, I have high expectations for student behavior and academic success. As
both a Christian and as a teacher of history, it is important for students to
understand that there are consequences for all of their actions, and I feel
that, at this age, each student must be held responsible for their actions,
both positive and negative. To help teach them responsibility, I will not
remind them to turn in late work.
However, they will lose 10% per day that the assignment is late. My grading percentages for all of my subjects
are as follows:
Tests 30%
Projects 30%
Quizzes 20%
Homework 10%
Participation 10%
With the exception of math,
there will be a project every quarter.
Regarding P.E., the student’s grade will be comprised of Projects (40%),
Participation (40%), and Homework (20%).
There will only be tests and quizzes during the quarter in which we will
be studying Health.
In terms of communication, I
can be reached at scorbin@calvary-christianschool.com.
Feel free to email me whenever you have a question, a concern, or when you
simply want to check in on how your child is doing. Also, each week you will be
able to find in my “Teacher Spot” the week’s assignments/activities. I
encourage students to print this out at the beginning of the week so that they
will always be aware of what tests/quizzes are coming up.
Looking forward to an excellent 2012-2013 school year,
Mrs. Flores (formerly Miss Corbin)
